29 july 2020 - Resilience of territories and sharing of risks in forest - Open discussion on possible insurance schemes

The meeting was a moment of confrontation between forest owners and managers, public and private, actors of the environmental sectors, and the partner who follows the insurance part to identify the risk reduction needs and the perceived risks, comparing them with those mapped and identifying methods and metrics starting from the various recent extraordinary events that occurred in the Alps in the perspective of climate change underway. The event was held in the morning and replicated in the afternoon for a total of 37 participants (25 morning + 12 afternoon). During the meeting we analyzed together the results of the questionnaire on the perception of forest risks administered in July 2020 to owners / managers and stakeholders of Trentino - South Tyrol and the first results of the mapping of the hazards and risks of the mapping (through the analysis of GIS data on risk factors). We therefore tried to identify particularly important or sensitive areas by stimulating a constructive and proactive discussion on possible insurance models. Status of art of project activities was presented. After the presentations, participants were involved in a group discussion, via the MURAL platform, on: a) future consequences (comparison today and tomorrow) of the introduction of an ideal Forest Insurance Scheme; b) factors influencing the spread among forest owners and managers of the above scheme. Due to the restrictions due to the covid-19 pandemic, the collaboration was fostered and built through online meetings and interactions based on web-based facilitation platform.
